Significant milestones during Reifsteck ’ s GROWMARk Board of Directors tenure

1994 Canada UCO

GROWMARK becomes the first American co-op to join with a co-op in Canada .
GROWMARK acquires the assets of United Co-operatives of Ontario , and more than 30 member cooperatives in the Canadian province join the System . In addition , GROWMARK purchases half of UPI , Inc ., a joint venture with Suncor Energy Products , to serve Ontario cooperatives with petroleum products .

2002 2005

Agway and Eastern Operations

Agway Inc ., DeWitt , New York , sells its Agronomy and Seedway businesses to GROWMARK Inc .
GROWMARK also bought Agway ’ s investment in CF Industries and Allied Seed .

Exiting CF

CF Industries Holdings , Inc . is an American manufacturer and distributor of agricultural fertilizers , including ammonia , urea , and ammonium nitrate products , based in Deerfield , Illinois .
CF Industries transitioned from inter-regional cooperative ( owned in part by GROWMARK ) to a publicly held corporation .

2007 Exiting ADM

GROWMARK sold its Illinois River terminals to Archer Daniels Midland and consolidated its grain merchandising

2011 Exiting NCRA

operations to form ADM / GROWMARK . A grain marketing agreement was implemented to benefit GROWMARK grain member cooperatives when grain was sold to ADM / GROWMARK . GROWMARK received ADM stock in exchange for its elevator assets along the Illinois River . That stock has been a significant part of GROWMARK ’ s financial strength and cash management strategy . This joint venture was dissolved in 2007 .
Two minority owners of the National Cooperative Refinery Association reached an agreement to transfer full ownership of the petroleum refiner to CHS , the majority shareholder . GROWMARK held 6.9 percent of NCRA .
CHS purchased additional interest in the McPherson , Kansas , refinery in annual increments beginning on September 1 , 2012 . The four transactions were complete on September 1 , 2015 .

2015 2020 2021 retail grain

GROWMARK ’ s retail grain units , EASTERN GRAIN MARKETING and NORTHERN GRAIN MARKETING merge with the grain operations of GRAINCO FS and Conserv FS to create FS GRAIN , spanning a 7,000 square mile territory .

Southern states

GROWMARK and Southern States Cooperative , headquartered in Richmond , Virginia , aligned operations to serve farmers in the southeastern United States .
GROWMARK will assume the wholesale agronomy and energy ( fuels and propane ) assets of Southern States , along with several retail locations serving farmers in Delaware and Maryland .

EXPANDING MEMBER PARTNERSHIPS

GROWMARK , Inc . and Legacy Farmers Cooperative announced a joint venture to purchase and operate a grain facility west of Defiance , Ohio . Together , GROWMARK and Legacy Farmers Cooperative formed a new Retail Grain Unit called Apex Grain Marketing , LLC which purchased the facility from Consolidated Grain and Barge Co .
